Mr Reginald Johnston was a British diplomat, chosen to be the English tutor of the boy-emperor Pu Yi in 191? He established a very close relationship with the boy and became his advisor. Whether his contribution from Pu Yi's point of view was positive or negative is unclear. He fought against the influence of the eunuchs, but his autobiography suggests he was very much a devious meddler. He later became the last British governor of the northern port colony of Weihaiwei.
