British Consulate-General

The first British Consulate in Shanghai was built in 1852 on the choicest piece of real estate in the settlement, at the junction of the Whangpoo River and Soochow Creek.

It was destroyed by fire on December 23rd, 1870, and most of the records were lost. A new building, which survives, was erected in 1872.
